Dr. Azure Holland
Helping families with their pets at home has become Dr. Holland’s passion as she has devoted her professional career in service to the animals and the families that love them.
Dr. Azure Holland is from Bailey – a small town in Eastern North Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Animal Science and attended the University of Tennessee Veterinary School, graduating in 2007. Since then, she has been in private practice in the Raleigh area. Dr. Holland was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve on the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board, a 5 year position which allows her to give back to the State and her Veterinary community.
Dr. Holland’s inspiration to open her practice lies within her own experiences. She had to drive home to Bailey one day to help her family’s Golden Retriever, Venus. Venus had been sick for a while and Dr. Holland knew it was time. Venus was in her favorite spot in the yard, it was a warm sunny day. She was able to care for Venus and provided the final act of love so that Venus would not suffer anymore. It was at this time that she knew she should help other families and their beloved pets at times like this. Venus was comfortable at home in her yard and it was the right way for this to happen.
Dr. Holland is influenced by the old way of doing things. Many small town vets in Eastern North Carolina would provide this service for their clients. She passionately provides this service to the Triangle area as many doctors cannot devote the time necessary to provide house calls for euthanasia. She knows that sometimes, families are more comfortable this way; they can grieve in the comfort of their home.
Helping families with their pets at home has become Dr. Holland’s passion as she has devoted her professional career in service to the animals and the families that love them. She has been trained by Dr. Wallace Sife, Ph.D. of the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement in pet loss guidance. Dr. Sife is one of the nation’s leading experts on pet loss and author of the book, The Loss of a Pet. Dr. Holland is the only veterinarian specializing in home euthanasia and hospice care in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill who has been certified by Dr. Sife in pet loss guidance.
Dr. Holland was a featured speaker at the Seventh International Conference on Pet Loss and Bereavement Counseling, Newark NJ, May 16th-18th, 2014 where she was invited to speak on the topic of At Home Euthanasia.
