Dr. Azure Holland founded her practice with a deeply personal understanding of what it means to say goodbye at home.
Early in her veterinary career, she returned to her hometown of Bailey, North Carolina, to help her family’s beloved Golden Retriever, Venus, pass peacefully. Caring for Venus in familiar surroundings, with her family close, shaped the practice she would build.
Since founding Azure Holland in 2012, she has brought that same thoughtful approach to in-home euthanasia and hospice care throughout Raleigh and the Triangle.
Dr. Holland earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She began her veterinary career in the Raleigh area, building lasting relationships with families and their companions.
A Tradition of Personal Care
Dr. Holland’s approach reflects the small-town veterinary traditions of eastern North Carolina, where house calls were part of caring for a community. A veterinarian knew the family, came to the home, and remained present through difficult moments.
As opportunities for this kind of care became less common, she saw a need worth answering. Azure Holland grew from her desire to preserve that personal connection at the end of life—giving families time, privacy, and thoughtful care in the familiarity of home.
Caring for the People Who Love Them
Dr. Holland’s understanding of loss extends beyond her clinical training. She was personally trained and certified in pet loss guidance by Dr. Wallace Sife, Ph.D., founder of the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement and author of The Loss of a Pet.
This preparation informs the care she brings to both her patients and the people who love them. She understands that questions, uncertainty, and grief are part of the experience, and that families need space to be heard as they prepare for their companion’s goodbye.
Leadership with Purpose
Dr. Holland’s commitment to the veterinary profession led to an appointment by the Governor of North Carolina to a five-year term on the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board.
Throughout Azure Holland, she sets a clear standard: care that is unhurried, honest, gentle, and deeply respectful. It shapes how her team listens, prepares, and supports each family.
For Dr. Holland, saying goodbye is a deeply meaningful moment—one deserving of clinical expertise, presence, trust, and time.
At home, she shares her life with her cats, Pecan Pie and Lady Blueberry Biscuit.
