Dr. Azure Holland

Raleigh In-Home Pet Euthanasia

Dr. Azure Holland has devoted her career to supporting families and their pets with compassion, presence, and respect. Providing gentle, in-home care has become her life’s work and deepest professional passion.

She was born and raised in Bailey, a small town in eastern North Carolina, where her love for animals and community first took root.

Dr. Holland earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. She went on to attend the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2007.

Following graduation, she began practicing in the Raleigh area, where she built lasting relationships with families and developed a reputation for thoughtful, high-quality veterinary care.

The Heart Behind Her Practice

Dr. Holland’s inspiration to create Azure Holland grew from her own personal experience.

While still early in her career, she returned home to Bailey to help her family say goodbye to their beloved Golden Retriever, Venus. Venus had been ill for some time, and Dr. Holland knew the moment had come.

On a warm, sunny day, Venus rested in her favorite spot in the yard. Surrounded by familiarity and love, Dr. Holland was able to provide her final act of care—ensuring she passed peacefully and without suffering.

In that moment, she knew this was how goodbyes should happen.

Venus was comfortable.
Her family was present.
The experience was calm, dignified, and deeply meaningful.

It was then that Dr. Holland committed herself to helping other families experience the same sense of peace and closure.

Honoring a Traditional, Compassionate Approach

Dr. Holland is strongly influenced by the “old way” of veterinary care, rooted in the traditions of small-town practitioners in eastern North Carolina. For generations, local veterinarians made house calls and supported families in their homes during life’s most difficult moments.

As modern medicine became more fast-paced, many doctors no longer had the time or resources to provide in-home end-of-life care.

Dr. Holland saw that gap—and chose to fill it.

Today, she proudly brings this personalized, unrushed approach to families throughout the Triangle. She understands that many families feel safest and most supported at home, where they can grieve privately and honor their pet’s life in familiar surroundings.

Specialized Training in Pet Loss Support

In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Holland has pursued advanced training in emotional and grief support.

She was personally trained in pet loss guidance by Dr. Wallace Sife, Ph.D., founder of the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement and author of The Loss of a Pet.

Dr. Sife is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts in companion animal loss.

Dr. Holland is the only veterinarian specializing in in-home euthanasia and hospice care in the Triangle region on North Carolina, who has been certified by Dr. Sife in pet loss guidance.

This training allows her to support not only pets—but the people who love them—through every emotional stage of the process.

Leadership and Service

In addition to leading Azure Holland, Dr. Holland remains deeply committed to the veterinary profession.

She was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve on the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board for a five-year term, reflecting her dedication to professional excellence, ethics, and public service.

Through this role, she continues to advocate for compassionate, high-quality veterinary care across the state.

Leading with Purpose and Compassion

Helping families care for their pets at home is not simply Dr. Holland’s profession—it is her calling.

Every service, protocol, and team member at Azure Holland reflects her belief that end-of-life care should be:

  • Unhurried

  • Gentle

  • Deeply respectful

Dr. Holland leads with clarity, warmth, and intention. She is known for her steady presence, ethical leadership, and unwavering commitment to both families and her care team.

For her, end-of-life care is not just a medical moment.

Dr. Holland was honored to serve as a featured speaker at the Seventh International Conference on Pet Loss and Bereavement Counseling in Newark, New Jersey, where she was invited to present on the topic of in-home euthanasia. Her participation reflected her growing leadership in compassionate end-of-life care.

Azure Holland, DVM, is fully insured and an active member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care.

As a dedicated mobile practice, Azure Holland focuses exclusively on in-home euthanasia and veterinary hospice care.
